Angewood Park in Cambridge A Community Effort

Residents in the community of Galt in the City of Cambridge have a new place to play. The new playground at Angewood Park is a true example of collaboration between Cambridge residents and the City.

The equipment at Angewood Park was slated for replacement in 2023, but the City wanted to ensure that the people using the park had input into the design for the new play space. In Spring 2023, Cambridge undertook a public consultation process to form a vision for the new park ahead of the replacement deadline.

Consultation included asking residents what elements of the current park they enjoyed, and what pieces of equipment, natural spaces and other elements would fit well into the space. Once the feedback was collected, Cambridge staff developed a tender package that included the community's vision. Later in the process, residents were invited to choose their favourite variation from three different playground designs.

In Summer 2023, installation of the new equipment was completed. The playground incorporates numerous features that promote play, but also great colours, textures and sound-producing equipment for sensory play. It's also compliant with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) criteria for safety and accessibility that allows children with physical and developmental needs to enjoy the park as well.
