Barrie Prepares for the Future with Net-Zero Building Audits and Electric Vehicle Adoption Study

Extreme and unpredictable weather events resulting from climate change have an impact on all municipalities.

Using $300,000 from the CCBF, Barrie is investing in multiple initiatives to fight climate change including improved sustainability with net-zero emissions by 2050.

The first initiative is an audit of nine municipal facilities that informs a pathway to net-zero operations in alignment with federal targets. These audits analyze the lifecycle of each building and lay out a plan for improving energy efficiency.

The second initiative is studying barriers to electric vehicle adoption in the community, including a geographic assessment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure with potential opportunities identified for expansion. This works alongside the ‘Electrify Barrie’ program which supports community engagement and awareness of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure in the community.
