Boosting Broadband in York Region
York Region is investing in a fast and reliable broadband network that is helping to strengthen and expand local services.
With support from the Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream (BCSF-CS), a number of projects are ongoing to build a 1,600-kilometre network of “dark fibre” infrastructure. This is helping to increase access to high-speed internet across the region, including in underserved communities.
It is also improving connectivity at municipal facilities in communities like Vaughan, Markham, East Gwillimbury, and many more. Services such as traffic management, public transit, emergency response, and water systems will all be enhanced thanks to these investments.
York Region receives more than $38 million per year from the BCSF-CS, part of which supported 13 active broadband projects in 2025.
