City of Niagara Falls Enhances Efficiency and Durability of Sanitary Network
While tourists were taking photos of the beautiful views in Niagara Falls, City staff were busy taking photos of the underground sanitary network to improve its efficiency and durability.
Luckily this did not require them to get knee-deep in sewage. Rather, some CCTV cameras (as pictured below) were used, along with special lighting to complete an inspection of the city-wide sanitary and combined sewer system.
Over seven years, the City used $1,400,000 of CCBF funds to assess conditions, provide rehabilitation recommendations to Council, and develop a comprehensive sanitary and storm system lining program.
This program improves the efficiency of the whole sewer system by optimizing the rehabilitation process, extending the life of the infrastructure, and driving future projects and re-investment, all while minimizing service disruption.
The program provides long-term solutions that save on costs and maintain safer and cleaner infrastructure for the city’s 94,000 residents and 12 million annual visitors.
