Cornwall Investing in Waterfront Development

The Canada Community-Building Fund is helping the City of Cornwall implement a vision for the future.

In 2022, Cornwall invested the CCBF into enhancing its public boat launch, a project that aligns with the municipality’s extensive Waterfront Plan.

Cornwall’s Waterfront Plan was first developed in 1989, updated in 2007, and again in 2019. It was developed to align with the Official Plan and Provincial Policy Statement while also creating a vision for the future of the City’s waterfront to be implemented over the next 25 years.

The Municipality engaged the public in development of the plan, hosting open houses, online resident and visitor surveys, and scheduling stakeholder interviews. The intent was to develop the waterfront in anticipation of future residential and commercial development in the urban area to the north, and to capitalize on Cornwall’s existing assets, like the waterfront path. In all, the plan includes 77 recommendations.

Upgrades to the boat launch area include improvements to the vehicle access and boat and trailer parking areas, a new ramp and dock that is more suitably sized for fluctuating water levels, and the addition of a second dock to separate the proposed beach area

Cornwall’s 2022 CCBF investments at the public boat launch will encourage use, improve user experience, and increase public safety.
