Dryden Boosts Economy with Community Hub Expansion

Located just few hours away from Winnipeg, in northwestern Ontario, lies the City of Dryden. Earlier this year, Dryden expanded its recreation centre with the aim of hosting northern communities for large-scale tournaments and events.

Using $370,000 from the CCBF, the facility was modernized, including improvements to energy-efficiency, accessibility, structural durability, and added space totaling 2,500 square feet.

A large new multi-purpose space is the focal point, supported by four new fully accessible change rooms, along with washrooms and an elevator. The pool and fitness centre also received major upgrades including the replacement of inefficient heating and cooling systems and a new roofing membrane.

Larger events and larger crowds can be accommodated in the upgraded space, which will drive tourism and economic activity in the City. Even before renovations, the facility supported annual events welcoming 7,750 residents from within Dryden, 16,500 residents from surrounding areas, and 7,500 Far North Indigenous visitors.

Maintaining predictable and sustainable operations is essential for the City to achieve increased economic development and long-term city planning goals, in which permanent and flexible funding from the CCBF plays an important role.
