Engaging and Protecting Students with Local Infrastructure in Loyalist
Loyalist Township is upgrading infrastructure around a school using the CCBF to increase safety and reliability for students and families.
The $4.5 million project used input from a Traffic Impact Study as well as students from Odessa Public School through an initiative called “Imagining My Sustainable Community.” Led by local architects, artists, and designers, students developed ideas like reading gardens and public art to make their community’s future more sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant.
The new rainbow crosswalk at Main Street and West Street is a direct outcome of the initiative that increases safety for students of the adjacent primary and secondary schools.
Along with newly designed turning lanes, active transportation pathways, and water and sewer pipes, the local government in Loyalist is showing how it cares for the safety and creativity of its youngest residents.
