Fort Erie Investing in Town-Wide Road Resurfacing

The Town of Fort Erie is preparing for a busy construction season with several city streets scheduled for rehabilitation in 2022.

Fort Erie is investing $200,000 from the Canada Community-Building Fund into a large-scale resurfacing project that will see 16.75 kilometres of roadways rehabilitated throughout the community. This rehabilitation includes hot mix asphalt or surface treatment along more than a dozen community streets.

The entire town road network is inspected bi-annually to evaluate pavement condition and determine which roads are candidates for improvement. This evaluation takes into consideration condition, traffic volume, road classification, road type, and various community factors such as school zones, transit routes and medical facility locations. Town staff also align the resurfacing program with other capital projects like watermain and sewer upgrades.

Thanks to this project, the Fort Erie will see increased lifespan of its community roadways, improved traffic flow and increased motorist safety.
