Fort William Stadium Gets Much-Needed Upgrades

Fort William Stadium in Thunder Bay looks incredible following a major overhaul, funded in-part by the Canada Community-Building Fund.

The CCBF helped fund a $4.4 million renovation to the stadium, which includes brand new field turf, a new scoreboard and cameras with wi-fi capabilities for live streaming, and a new and improved running track. The improvements are almost complete with some minor tweaks still to be completed, including finishing touches to the new track.

Prior to the rehabilitation, the infrastructure was showing its age. The field and track were more than a decade old. With time and use, both assets were showing signs of deterioration. The field surface was shifting and heaving. Parts of the track were in rough shape, to the point that there were multiple tripping hazards. Additionally, the scoreboard was old and out of date.

With these investments, all of those issues have been rectified and the stadium is ready for use.

Fort William Stadium is a key piece of infrastructure in Thunder Bay. It hosts football clubs and various sporting events, and has enough seating for 3,500 fans.
