Frontenac County Transforms Old Railway into Recreational Trail

A recent investment from the CCBF helped develop a multi-use trail in Frontenac County that forms a critical link between the City of Kingston and eastern Ontario’s wider trail network.

Extending approximately 180 kilometres from downtown Kingston to Renfrew, the K&P Rail Trail is a key part of the Trans Canada Trail network. Frontenac County developed the trail from an obsolete railway and continues to build up the trail as a long-term community asset.

The trail is affectionately named after the Kick and Push (K&P) railroad after stories of passengers getting off slow-moving trains to physically push them to move faster. The name now resonates with the local cycling and hiking communities that enjoy the access to nature.

A $500,000 CCBF investment has been critical in transforming the aging rail infrastructure into a high-quality, accessible, recreational trail.
