Helping Unlock Future Housing in Belleville

Belleville is unlocking approximately 9,000 units of future housing by expanding its wastewater service capacity.

The City is building a new wastewater pumping station and upgrading its existing wastewater treatment plant using contributions of more than $5.3 million from the Build Communities Strong Fund – Community stream.

Work involves upgrades to clarifiers, replacement of collection systems, and renewal of various other equipment. Significant sections of roads, sidewalks, and watermains in the west Belleville area are also being enhanced to better serve residents.

The project will result in more reliable, resilient, and efficient operations at the facility for the long-term. The added capacity is essential for enabling future development and will also improve services across the rest of the City.

“This project represents a major investment in Belleville’s future,” said Victoria Gibson, Senior Project Manager. “By strengthening wastewater infrastructure in the city’s west end, we’re enabling new housing, protecting public health, and ensuring our servicing systems are prepared to support continued growth.”
