HVAC Upgrades at Brockville's Aquatarium

One of Brockville’s most popular tourism destinations received important mechanical upgrades in 2021, thanks to the Canada Community-Building Fund.

The Brockville Aquatarium, located along Brockville’s waterfront on the St. Lawrence River, is a popular tourist hub and showcases three floors of aquariums. The Aquatarium offers interactive experiences for visitors of all ages, including exhibits of several species of fish and animals and replica shipwrecks from the St. Lawrence River and 1000 Islands region.

In 2021, Brockville invested its CCBF funding into upgrading its HVAC system on two floors of the building. One HVAC unit services the washrooms, store room and front desk area of the Aquatarium. The second, located on the third floor, runs at all times to ensure the animal holding and food prep areas are both adequately cooled.

Prior to upgrades, the HVAC units on both floors were inadequate and didn’t maintain proper temperatures, which was problematic for both the animals and staff at the facility.

The new HVAC system on both floors has increased energy efficiency and reduced energy costs for the City of Brockville, while making the Aquatarium more comfortable for its inhabitants, staff and visitors.
