Improved Sidewalks for Orillia

The Canada Community-Building Fund is helping the City of Orillia complete much-needed sidewalk improvements in 2023.

The City has identified 970 metres of sidewalks that are in need of repair and improvements. The project will address a number of issues aside from making the sidewalks safer for pedestrians.

An annual sidewalk inspection rated a number of areas as being in poor condition. Some areas were also noted as being undersized, making them non-compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). In order to become AODA compliant, Orillia is installing wider, more elevated sidewalks in these areas.

These same sections of sidewalk also made it difficult for snow removal machines during the winter.

With these improvements, the sidewalks will be safer for pedestrians and more accessible for residents and municipal workers.
