Innovative Bridge Replacement in Elgin County
King Bridge serves as a key transportation route in Elgin County.
The bridge carries approximately 3,100 vehicles per day and plays a vital role in connecting residents, businesses, agricultural operations, and emergency services throughout the region.
It was fully replaced using an investment of more than $1.7 million from the Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream.
The new structure was designed to maintain the existing appearance while strengthening the load capacity. An innovative approach was used as large pre-made sections of concrete were delivered ready for installation. This led to more efficient construction and a durable, long-term structure.
Originally constructed in 1947, the former bridge had reached the end of its useful service life. The new King Bridge will provide a safe, reliable crossing for residents and visitors for decades to come while supporting the continued movement of people, goods, and services throughout Elgin County.
The project is complete and the bridge is open to traffic.
