Mississauga Makes Significant Public Transit Investments
Efficient transportation is critical in Mississauga.
The City’s population is large and continues to grow, meaning more people and goods will be travelling across the City in the near future. Investments in public transit help to move people more efficiently and reduce traffic congestion for everyone.
Mississauga receives more than $23 million from the BCSF-CS each year and is using part of that to invest in 22 active projects to improve local public transportation.
One major project involves constructing a new bus terminal and dedicated bus route through a highly used section of the network in downtown Mississauga.
Other projects involve replacing aging fare collection equipment on 505 buses, installing 15 vehicle hoists for servicing and maintenance, adding washrooms at transit stations, upgrading service equipment that is at maximum capacity, constructing 95 new accessible bus stops, and more.
These essential infrastructure improvements will provide benefits to the whole transit system and will make it easier for commuters to travel to, from, and through Mississauga.
