New Bridge in South Bruce Better Accommodates Traffic Flow

The Municipality of South Bruce invested $711,065 to replace the Falconer Bridge on Concession 2 in Culross. The original bridge was more than 70 years old, and was a cast-in-place concrete rigid frame built in 1940.  Investments from the Canada Community-Building Fund helped replace with old infrastructure with a new, precast concrete bridge and a new culvert.

The 2020 bridge inspection report noted that, given the high rehabilitation costs in comparison to replacement costs, along with the narrow width and overall small size of the structure and the condition of the key structural elements, replacement of the structure was recommended as soon as possible.

Replacement of the bridge was completed in 2023 with a $372,500 investment from the CCBF. The completed structure will accommodate larger, heavier vehicles and to better accommodate two-lane traffic flow.
