New Playground In Collingwood To Be Accessible and Inclusive

A beautiful waterfront park in the Town of Collingwood will soon re-open as an inviting and accessible place for everyone to play.

The original park, Sunset Point Enviropark, was constructed in 1993 using mainly wood and concrete products, designed around the theme of water and environmental protection.

In 2021, the Town decided to upgrade the park, as the play structures had exceeded their life expectancy, and the park infrastructure didn’t meet current accessibility or safety standards. The park was not only due for scheduled replacement, but was also identified as a priority project in the municipal asset management plan.

With an estimated budget of $1.8 million, the Sunset Point Playground project is being partially funded through the Canada Community-Building Fund. The new park is designed to be inclusive to people of all abilities with rubberized safety surfacing, a custom lighthouse, integration of water into the play experience and connections to the natural environment.  Adjacent to the new playground is a new washroom, firefly forest, sensory gardens and harvest pavilion to add more benefit for the visitors.

Sunset Point Playground is located in one of the Town’s most popular waterfront parks, used by residents and tourists alike. It’s expected the park will be ready for visitors by July 2022.
