Niagara Region Bridge Enables New Housing
Niagara Region is planning for future growth with a structural rehabilitation of East Main Street Bridge, using a $3 million investment from the Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream.
The project is expected to enable approximately 6,800 housing units in a nearby area identified for major residential growth over the next 30 years.
The rehabilitation will reinforce the bridge’s structure, road surface, and sidewalks, which will support improved traffic flow along the important corridor and ensure reliable travel for approximately 15,000 daily users.
The bridge is heavily used by residents, students, and workers travelling for education, retail, and community services in Welland and Niagara Falls. It also hosts an established bus route, playing a critical role in the local transit network.
