Oshawa Celebrates Opening of new Park

The City of Oshawa has given kids a new place to play.

Oshawa celebrated on June 29 by inviting local delegates and residents to the opening of Fenelon/Venus Park, a neighbourhood greenspace featuring new playground equipment and accessible features.

The completion of this project signifies the end of a two-year process to redevelop the park into a community space that is more inclusive and play-friendly. Community engagement was undertaken in early 2021 on the proposed park concept. Construction began in early 2022 and was completed by year-end.

The one-hectare park is situated between Fenelon Crescent and Venus Crescent, just east of Park Road between Wentworth Street and Phillip Murray Avenue. The park features new junior and senior play equipment, as well as accessible swings, a basketball court, additional seating and an accessible park pathway connecting the park to both crescents. Additionally, tree plantings and naturalized areas extend through the edges of the park providing both shade and habitat.

Oshawa invested $335,000 into the project, with $240,000 provided by the Canada Community-Building Fund. Parks and greenspaces like Fenelon/Venus Park make communities fun and enjoyable places to live. Residents now have a park to enjoy for years to come.
