Ottawa Investing in 74 New OC Transpo Buses

Ottawa’s OC Transpo busing fleet is getting a major boost thanks to the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Over the next three years, the City is investing more than $55 million in CCBF funding into the purchase of 74 Novabus Diesel 40-foot buses to help replace decommissioned buses in the fleet.

Ottawa’s transit service, which includes 900 transit vehicles and the City’s O-Train, serves more than 340,000 people daily who rely on public transit to get to work or school and access local services. OC Transpo offers pick-up and drop off at 47 transit stations covering 480 square kilometres.

In the month of September 2022, Ottawa residents and visitors took more than 5.7 million rides on the City’s bus fleet and O-Train, an increase of 63% over pre-pandemic levels. Student ridership also increased by 117%.

Investments in these new buses will ensure that Ottawa’s residents continue receiving safe, reliable public transit options to get them where they need to be, 365 days a year.
