Performers Ready to Take the Stage Once Again at Meadowvale Theatre

A mainstay in Mississauga’s arts and culture scene has been given new life thanks to investments from the Canada Community-Building Fund.

Mississauga’s Meadowvale Theatre is a 395-seat, 22,130 square foot performing arts facility that’s been in operation since 1989. It’s home to many thriving community theatre organizations and offers performances in music, dance, drama, comedy and musical theatre. It’s also a space for community programming and corporate and professional events. The theatre closed in May 2021 and opened this past summer after extensive work was completed.

Since its construction more than three decades ago, no major upgrades had been completed at Meadowvale until last year. The City invested CCBF funds into a refresh at the facility, including upgrades to the interior and exterior.

Inside, improvements included a reconfiguration to the existing box office area to help with crowds and congestion, along with an interior refresh of the administrative area, meeting room and rehearsal hall to be able to host separate events. The building’s curved staircase was removed and a new, more functional staircase installed. The building’s two washrooms were upgrade for accessibility, and a third universal washroom was added.  Finally, electrical improvements helped make the building more energy efficient.

Outside, the front plaza and back patio entrances were rehabilitated, and new signage provided the facility with a greater street presence and a unique identity in the community. The building’s roof was also upgraded, along with the building’s air handling unit, compressor and rooftop condensing unit.

The theatre re-opened in summer 2022 and is ready to welcome new and diverse clients to its state-of-the-art performance and meeting facility.
