Pool in Thornlea Back Open for Swimmers
The City of Markham has re-opened a much-loved indoor pool in the west end.
Markham invested funding from the CCBF into rehabilitation of the Thornlea pool, after it was shut down due to mechanical issues. The mechanical dehumidification unit needed to be replaced before the pool could be operational again.
The Thornlea pool attracts more than 45,000 visitors per year. It’s a community asset, providing accessible and well-regulated aquatic programming, and is a location that offers advanced lifeguarding and swim instructor courses.
In order to get the pool functioning, Markham installed a new dehumidifier, and also made improvements to the pool building, including new bricking and concrete, a new roof, and rehabilitation of the pool where cracks or damage were located.
Now, it's a place the community can enjoy again.
