Protecting Sarnia's Shoreline

Sarnia is investing in a multi-year project to upgrade its shoreline protection in response to historically high water levels on Lake Huron.

The City has invested more than $2.9 million to date from the BCSF Community Stream to help mitigate erosion. The project will help protect residential properties, public beaches, and critical municipal infrastructure on the shoreline such as roads, watermains, and electrical and communication infrastructure.

Work involves reinforcement of the shore using armour stone and construction of multiple steel groynes which help to reduce the force of waves before they reach land.

By investing in shoreline protection now, the City is helping to reduce the risk of future damage and costly repairs while preserving access to the waterfront for residents and visitors.
