Quinte West Enables Growth with Pipe Upsizing
New housing development requires the expansion of municipal infrastructure like water and wastewater pipes.
In Quinte West, the Canada Community-Building Fund has supported the expansion of undersized pipes along Wooler Road to create capacity for additional housing units. The City invested $125,000 from the CCBF to replace old watermains including one in particular that alleviated a significant bottleneck in the wastewater system, allowing water to flow at nearly a ten times higher rate.
The work was identified by the City’s Water and Wastewater Master Plan and used an efficient technique that reduced the time and resources needed for construction. Curbs and sidewalks on one side of the road were replaced, but the main road surface remained intact.
Close to Highway 401, the project location is prime for residential growth.
