Recreation Improvements in the Village of Barwick

Recreation centres and outdoor sports facilities are social gathering hubs in small communities across Ontario. Not only do they provide a space where residents can get active, but they are also places where residents gather for Saturday morning hockey games, and where kids build confidence and practice teamwork.

The Township of Chapple, a small municipality in Northwestern Ontario, serves a population of just over 600 people. In 2022, the municipality invested the Canada Community-Building Fund into upgrades at a local park in the Village of Barwick.

Prior to renovations, the park had an outdoor rink. The addition of a new concrete pad now makes it an all-season facility for winter skating and summer rollerblanding. The municipality also replaced one of the sports field shelters, and added new washroom facilities at the park.

With these new upgrades, Barwick residents and visitors will be able to enjoy outdoor recreation and stay active year-round.
