Reducing Energy Use and Emissions in Ajax
Ajax has more than 48 municipal buildings including administrative buildings, community centers, libraries, recreation buildings, and fire stations.
Delivering municipal services requires significant energy use and can produce Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) as a result. The Town is using part of its $4.1 million yearly CCBF allocation to improve energy efficiency in multiple ways.
Several projects are ongoing in the Town to reduce both energy use and emissions including energy system replacements at Town Hall, McLean Community Centre, St Francis Community Centre, and the Main Library Branch, as well as installing 242 new LED streetlights across the Midtown and Southwood Park neighbourhoods.
The Town Hall upgrades alone will reduce GHG emissions by 7 tonnes annually. That’s the same amount that a car would produce by driving across all of Canada 5 times.
