Safer Roads in Tudor and Cashel

The Municipality of Tudor and Cashel completed significant roadwork in 2021, resulting in safer and smoother travels for motorists.

The municipality invested its Canada Community-Building Fund contributions into the rehabilitation of three stretches of municipal roadways, including portions of Old Hastings Road, Weslemkoom Lake Road, and South Steenburg Lake Road.

Increased traffic on South Steenburg Lake Road during the annual thaw led to severe deterioration of the roadway, especially to one area of the road where a large culvert was beginning to sink and the hill was washing out. Rehabilitation included spot gravelling along the road, and installation of a new culvert. With these improvements, the roadway will be dryer in the spring and will be better equipped to handle the increased traffic.

Along Old Hastings Road, 8.7 kilometres of the road was rehabilitated by way of ditching, re-graveling and culvert replacement.

Weslemkoon Lake Road is a main artery road for residents who live and play on the area lakes and surrounding forested areas both permanently and seasonally. In 2021, the municipality rehabilitated 19,500 square metres of the road, applying a surface treatment to extend the life of the road and make ongoing maintenance easier.

These three roads service hundreds of residents in Tudor and Cashel and see all kinds of traffic, including logging trucks and heavy equipment. Thanks to the Canada Community-Building Fund, these roadways will remain safe and accessible.
