Saving Commuters Time in Richmond Hill
As the GTA grows, Richmond Hill is one of many municipalities working to accommodate high volumes of commuters.
“Smart Commute” is an innovative program backed by research that encourages sustainable mobility choices. The program’s goals include easing traffic congestion, reducing harmful emissions, and enhancing residents’ quality of life. It is being funded in part by $100,000 from the CCBF, and the information it gathers is guiding future infrastructure investment priorities.
Working in partnership with Markham and York Region, Smart Commute promotes awareness of efficient travel options. These include the public transit and active transportation networks the City has been investing in as alternatives to single-occupancy vehicles.
One method of engagement is through workplaces, helping connect employees with solutions that fit their needs. For example, mix and mingle sessions help employees find carpool partners who live nearby.
The program is a great example of how municipalities are using the CCBF to think long-term and plan for future growth.
