St. Marys Makes a Splash with Aquatic Centre Upgrades
Pyramid Recreation Centre is a pillar of the St. Marys community, hosting an indoor pool as well as a senior’s centre and ice rink. About a third of the 7,000-person population uses the pool annually.
With a variety of swimming activities including youth lessons, family swims, birthday parties, and the popular “Aquafit” program, residents from nine months old to 90 years old enjoy the Aquatics Centre. The site even hosts swim teams from neighbouring municipalities when the pools at home are busy.
Using a $330,000 investment from the CCBF, the Town is replacing a large section of the Aquatic Centre’s aging roof. This work is being done in coordination with other renovations to the facility that will ensure safety and functionality for users.
During renovations, the outdoor swimming area at the local quarry has seen more visits than usual. Though generally a tourist site, it served as a useful alternative for avid swimmers through the summer months.
The Town is planning for the Aquatics Centre to reopen before the end of 2025, and the community is excited to dive back into local recreation programming.
