Supporting Affordable Housing with Energy Retrofits in Durham Region
Housing Durham provides deeply affordable housing to 270 seniors in buildings at 155 King Street in Oshawa and 315 Colborne Street in Whitby.
Durham Region is using $7.8 million from the CCBF to fund energy retrofits that will drastically reduce energy consumption and reduce climate-related health risks for residents.
The enhancements include window replacements, roof over-cladding, and installation of a Building Automation System, all of which contribute to an estimated 50% reduction in energy consumption and 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Residents will directly benefit from better temperature regulation, optimal humidity, protection from extreme weather events, and an overall modernized system that prepares them for the future.
