Transit-Enabling Work in Hamilton Funded by CCBF
The City of Hamilton was able to keep water flowing for residents and businesses despite two major infrastructure projects happening at once.
The City invested $1.28 million from the CCBF into upgrades to its drinking water system, increasing water pressure and water volume for existing and future residents. This also involved replacing outdated lead components with safer and longer-lasting copper piping.
During the project, the City navigated the construction of a light rail transit system in the area, and managed to coordinate the two projects in such a way that water services went uninterrupted.
Once the underground work was completed, crews redid the street and added accessibility upgrades like wheelchair ramps, a new accessible pedestrian crosswalk, and wider sidewalks.
To round out the upgrades, two new benches were added along the street and the City’s cycling network was connected to the area.
The project creates lasting benefits for the community and sets up the area for success once the transit construction is finished.
